1️⃣ This was one of my favorite museums for kids pre-C because of their imagiNations kids area. That area is closed right now and tbh if you have kids under maybe age 5, I might wait until it opens again because there is not anything else that is interactive in the museum.
2️⃣ When we first entered, a nice museum staff member greeted us virtually on a large tv and asked how he could help! He suggested for my age kids (8 and 5) to skip Level 4 (where you usually start) because it on the Treaties and while that is interesting its a lot of reading. So we went straight to level 3 and The Inca Road and Americans exhibits. My daughter was fascinated and my son liked it for half the exhibit and then he drew in his passport 😂. The Americans exhibit was my favorite especially the Pocahontas room.
3️⃣ Make sure you spend time in the garden, water area and Native American Veterans Memorial. It is peaceful, beautiful and full of meaning.
📍- The entrance to the museum is at 3rd Street and Maryland Ave, SW, facing the U.S. Capitol Building.
💲 – Free but you have to get timed entry tickets.
⏰ – Right now open 11 AM – 4 PM Wed-Sunday.
🚻 – Lots and clean! Water bottle filling stations too.
🅿️ – I lucked out and found street parking less than 1 block away on 3rd street at 1:30 PM on a weekday. Other streets to check Kare Jefferson & Madison. Make sure you check ALL signs since its close to the Capitol and lots of federal buildings some streets are not for public parking. Closest parking garage is on 4th and C SW.
😷 – Masks must be worn indoors at all times. The Cafe is closed and social distancing stickers are everywhere.
♿️ – Very stroller and wheelchair friendly. Elevators and ramps and wide galleries.
