Wonderful visit to the National Portrait Gallery and the Smithsonian American Art Museum! Your free timed-entry ticket gets you into 2 museums + beautiful courtyard and below are a couple tips to navigate with kids thru this very large museum!⁣⁣

Tips During Protocol Times
1️⃣ There was an issue with eTix and they issued tickets for 11AM when the museum doesn’t open until 11:30. Last Friday was the first instance of this happening but if you have 11am tix, I would call and ask what to do. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
2️⃣ We enjoyed going first to the beautiful Kogod Courtyard and enjoying the orchids (was named 1 of 7 architectural new wonders of the world!)⁣⁣
⁣⁣
3️⃣ Next, we went all the way up to the 3rd floor first to the Modern and Contemporary Art and the Great Hall. We had it mostly to ourselves because most ppl start with the 1st floor and 2nd floor (American Presidents and First Ladies) The Great Hall was once the largest room in America and was the first national museum and held Abraham Lincoln’s inaugural ball! ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
4 – We ended at the American Presidents and First Ladies exhibit. Note: The Obama portraits are on tour now (there is the Shepard Fairey HOPE poster in its place)⁣⁣
⁣⁣
📍- Only entrance open is at 8th and G Street NW DC (stroller and wheelchair ramp)⁣⁣
💲 – Free but tickets need to be reserved ahead of time at si.edu/visit⁣⁣
⏰ – Current hours: Wednesday through Sundays 11:30 AM – 7PM⁣⁣
🚻 – Lots of clean restrooms.⁣⁣
🅿️ – The only hard part. The museum is located in Chinatown where it’s hard to find parking. We ended up getting a very close but expensive parking garage on 8th Street for $18 all day ($10 for 1 hr)⁣⁣
😷 – Lots of great protocols including masks, social distancing and hand sanitizer everywhere. The kids Explore room is closed right now.⁣⁣
♿️ – Very wheelchair and stroller friendly.
