Frederick Douglass' Home

Washington, DC - Museum

You can visit the Frederick Douglass National Historic Site in Washington, D.C., where the famous abolitionist and statesman lived for the last 17 years of his life. Located in the historic Anacostia neighborhood, the home—known as Cedar Hill—offers guided tours that provide powerful insight into Douglass’s legacy and daily life. Tours are available daily, but advance reservations are strongly recommended, as space is limited. The site is typically open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the last tour often starting around 4 p.m., though hours may vary by season. Admission is free, and it’s managed by the National Park Service, which also maintains a small visitor center and museum exhibit.
