Tree-Top Thrills at Go Ape Springfield: A Mother-Daughter Adventure
This past weekend, my daughter and I took on the treetops at Go Ape Springfield, and it was one of the most exhilarating (and bonding!) experiences we’ve had in a long time.
Tucked away in the woods behind the South Run Rec Center in Virginia, Go Ape is an adventure course filled with zip lines, rope ladders, Tarzan swings, and all sorts of wobbly bridges that put your balance—and bravery—to the test. From the moment we clipped into our harnesses and climbed the first ladder, we were completely immersed in the challenge and fun of it all.
What I loved most was watching my daughter grow more confident with every obstacle. At first, she hesitated on the swinging platforms and rope crossings, but by the end, she was zip-lining through the trees with the biggest smile on her face. There’s something pretty magical about cheering each other on as you dangle 30 feet in the air!
The course is well-designed, with different difficulty levels, and the instructors were fantastic—encouraging, patient, and really great with kids. We did the Treetop Adventure, which is geared for ages 10 and up, but there’s also a Treetop Journey course for younger kids if you’ve got little ones in tow.
By the end of the day, we were muddy, a little sore, and absolutely glowing. It was the kind of experience that pushes you just enough out of your comfort zone, but in the best, most fun way possible. If you’re looking for an active outdoor adventure that’ll leave you both proud and breathless, Go Ape Springfield is 100% worth it.
