Lake Mercer Va
Springfield, VA - Park
Lake Mercer VA is a lovely hidden gem in Lorton/Springfield/Fairfax Station. We started coming here this summer and have probably already visited a half dozen times! The tricky part is parking but now that we have a good spot, I can recommend this beautiful lake with 5.6 miles of paved trails. There are about 6 parking spots on the side of the very busy Hooes Road which I do not recommend. It is too busy of a road with kids and then you have to take an uphill gravel path to the main paved trail around the lake. (Hard for my 4-year-old with his bike!) So the best place is to turn onto Triple Ridge Road and then turn right onto Jeffery Court. Its a cul-de-sac where you can park legally and then walk down the trail entrance. To go straight to the top of the dam, turn right at the first fork and follow the trail through the woods and up the hill (about 15 minutes) to this beautiful vista! Swipe right for a map that I hope is helpful, or send me a message if you have any questions! 🚻 No restrooms available so plan accordingly! ♿Paths are all paved so good for strollers and wheelchairs. Although large hill up to the dam section.

Dyke Marsh Trail Mount Vernon
Dyke Marsh Trail felt worlds away from even the nearby GW Parkway! This little beach, with views of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge and sailboats in the harbor was so much fun as a family. We skipped stones, learned about the Piscataway tribe and searched for shells. It’s only a 10 minute walk from parking at the Belle Haven Marina which has permanent restrooms! Put into google "Belle Haven Marina." If you put in the name of the park, google takes you to a random spot on the bike trail! 🅿️ There is parking in the marina or nearby. 🚻 2 sets of restrooms! They have some between the 2 large parking lots in Belle Haven Park and also permanent restrooms at the Marina.😷 Wider trail than others and not too busy even on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. ❌♿️ Not wheelchair or stroller accessible as there were larger rocks on the path.
