Turkey Run Park
Have you been to Turkey Run Park before? Beautiful Park high above the Potomac and then you can take stairs down to the water! It was super cold this weekend, so I confess my son and I only lasted 20 mins (swipe to see our epic tic-tac-toe battle!) but my husband and daughter went all the way under GW Parkway, across the creeks a couple of times and loved their hour+ walk! ⣠The @nationalparkservice website calls it: âa vertical slice of the Potomac Gorge ecosystemâ which is a great description! ⣠There is a 0.75-mile loop you can take or many more trails that connect to other parts of the park. âŁ

W&OD Trail
The W&OD Trail is a popular paves trail of about 45 miles in Virginia. It starts in Shirlington and goes to Purcellville. Lots of parks along the way for families. 3 that we love as a family are Bluemont Park and Benjamin Bannecker Park and Glencaryln Park.

Occoquan Wildlife Nature Preserve
Occoquan Wildlife Nature Preserve is part of 3 wildlife preserves under the US Fish and Wildlife Service. It is 640 acres of protected lands and waters set aside to conserve America's fish, wildlife, and plants. These preserves are specifically protected areas for bald eagles. We were excited to see 1 bald eagle soaring. There is a sign showing which parts of one of the trails is blocked now as there are protected bald eagle nests right now! We parked in the main lot and took the 0.4 mile Fox Trail to the water's edge. There are tons of other paths you can take and there are lots of maps at the start of the trail to take with you or take a picture of. More about the amenities in the link below.

Great Waves Waterpark
Great Waves Waterpark in Alexandria is a wonderful outdoor water park! It has a giant wave pool which is so fun, water slides, outdoor playground for littles and more! The park is the perfect size for my kids (ages 5 and 8) with tons to do even without going on the tall slides! (My son is under 48â requirement) But they had 2 other fun slides for kids, wave pool, splash pad, and the surprise of the day⊠the huge netted play structure that was almost empty and in the shade! Note: It was very busy even on a Wednesday. These pics donât show all the ppl because I didnât want to post other kids, especially in the water, so I took pics from far away. We were able to be farther away from people by going to the spots ppl were not at (ex. When waves were on, we went to the slides. When everything was busy we went to the awesome play structure which had 1 other kid and wore masks.) Just wanted to put this big disclaimer out there in case you want to social distance even more, I would skip this water park this summer. Another big note is that no food or drinks other than water bottles are allowed in at Great Waves Waterpark. I had to bring my snack of cherries back to the car. Pizza, hot dogs, funnel cakes and Dippinâ Dots are sold there. âŁ
