We’ve been to 6 Nature Centers in nova and found the one with the MOST live animals! The staff was so nice to take the time to answer all my kiddo's questions and let them touch some of the animals.
A wonderful free spot in Alexandria kind of near the Mark Center.
They are currently open Thursdays to Saturdays 10 AM to 4 PM. They have Story Time on Thursdays at 11 AM and Meet the Animal on Fridays at 11 AM. You do not need to register, just show up!

Huge inflatable indoor playground near the Eisenhower Ave Metro. They focus on birthday parties but have open play times most days. Unique to this indoor play area is that they have different play times for different ages. for example, Little Tikes is most days from 10 - 11:30 AM for 18 months to 6-year-olds.

Wonderful Nature Center along the Potomac River with tons to explore inside and outside. They have live turtles, snakes, frogs, and more as well as nature displays and fun play areas (Even a pretend cave!) My kids also love saying hi to the huge raptors that have been rescued.

Huge indoor play area in Woodbridge, right of US 1 and I-95. In a shopping center so a little dark but has a ton of great areas for kids of all ages to play. Also includes the giant blue building blocks that we've seen at the National Building Museum! Only 20 kids per 90-minute session but when I visited there was lots of space.
